It Suits You Well

badpantsuitIt was the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and ninety four when I bought my first business suit. I was just starting out in my career and wanted a suit that was sturdy, stylish, and would last for years to come. And then I saw it, a gorgeous dark green double breasted Christian Dior pant suit hanging on a clearance rack at Neiman Marcus. It was the perfect fit, fabric, and price. It was love at first sight.  I remember trying it on and hearing the sales lady say, “It suits you” which  confirmed something my grandma use to say about the importance of having that “One good suit” that’s perfect for every occasion. This week post is all about owning that one good suit. As I peruse through the September issue of various fashion magazines, I was please to see the re-emergence of the modern pant suit featured on the runway this season. Gone are the plain Jane traditional suits of the past.  The reboot offers different cuts, styles, and contrast of fabric, such as denim and leather which  yields a more edgier look.  On a tight budget?  Consider investing in a multi-layered suit where each piece can be styled and worn separately thereby stretching the wardrobe.  And speaking of new suits and tight budgets, you’re probably wondering whatever happened to that Christian Dior suit. Well I retired it in 2014 after 20 years of wear.  And although I’ve been blessed with many suits since then,  I can honestly say it was one of the smartest purchases I’ve ever made. It was my one good suit and it served and suited me well.
