Remember the power looks of the eighties? The entire ensemble from head to toe was design to give women working in the corporate world an air of  authority and competency thereby placing them on equal footing with their male counterparts (well…supposedly).  But as the saying goes, the more things change the more they stay the same.  While it’s true that women are still fighting for equal pay and respect in the work place, what has changed is the style of dress.

 

Freeing ourselves from the expectation of  what some would call “traditional office wear”, most divas has opted to don a softer look. Flowy textured skirts, bell sleeves, and bold and soft patterns thought at one time to be too feminine for the office, has become the baseline for the new power image.  So my advice to all you hard working promotion deserving divas is to keep slaying the style game and putting in your grind time. And once you’ve shattered that glass ceiling, reach back and help your sisters strive and thrive as someone once did for you. Because remembering your time in the struggle, is one sure way to keep you from power trippin.
