Do you remember your senior prom? . . . the date, the dancing, the DRESS. Well if you do, this week post ain’t about you. It’s about the rest of us. Those of us with no prom stories to tell because we were too cash strapped to afford a dress, or dumped and left brokenhearted on the eve of prom, or were the so-called ugly ducklings who couldn’t get a date and therefore relegated to a window seat while watching other girls in their glorious pomp pass by. Back then, it seemed as if the world was ending but gradually the sting of disappointment dissipates. Inevitably, you grow up and enjoy the excitement of prom night through the young ones. For example, a few years ago, I had the awesome pleasure of seeing my baby cousin off to her senior prom. As we anxiously waited to see the young lady of the hour, we reminisced about our own prom memories (or lack of). Some had wonderful experiences, others not so much but in the end it was good to laugh about something that seemed so tragic back in the day. So to all the young ladies who feel robbed of prom night, I encourage you to be of good cheer. Because one day you’ll come to realize, as I did, that your real life is way more blessed, fun, and fabulous than that of a prom dream.
