But do you really only get one? Sure, you only get one biological mom. But what about the woman (or women) who imparts wisdom, encouragement, and unyielding love in place of or in addition to your biological mother? This week post is dedicated to the women who believes a mother’s love covers not only the babies who physically grew under their hearts but for those of us who grew in it. In a world where family is being redefined by the second, the mother figure (affectionately known as “play mama”) will always be one of the cornerstones of our lives. Perhaps she was the neighbor who watched over you when you were growing up, the teacher who extended herself with a judgement-free ear, or the co-worker that guided you throughout your career. And although she may not have children of her own, she carries a mother’s heart which allows her to be mother to us all. So if there is a person(s) in your life who fits this description, celebrate them by striving to make every day Mother’s Day and to those whose play mamas are here only in spirit, honor their lives by sharing wisdom, style, encouragement, and unconditional love with someone who sees the mother in you. As I bring this week post to a close, I’d like to wish my mom and all the play mamas who guided me on my life’s journey a Happy Mother’s Day. I will love you forever.
